International Mother Earth Day 2016 Celebration in Kabul, Afghanistan

            To celebrate Mother ‪Earth Day‬, UNDP/GEF's Small Grants Programme and ‪EWA‬ presented “Champion of Earth” awards to successful UNDP-supported environmentalists at a packed ceremony in Bagh-e-Babur. Rural Green Environment Organization - RGEO won the first award for reforesting a mountain in the Tagab district of northeastern ‪‎Badakhshan‬ province that saved rare animals and plants and created livelihoods opportunities for thousands of locals.
UNDP will keep working with ‪NEPA‬ to mobilize more resources from the Global Environmental Facility so that rare plants and wild animals can thrive in protected areas.
