Caldwell 27: a crescent or a brain? - a photo on Flickriver

            Normal viewing of the well known Calwell 27 nebula in Cygnus, here on the left, shows a crescent. Long exposure astro photography through an Halpha filter shows a brainy (sic!) appearance with complex filaments. Extraterrestrial intelligence? or rather a sculpture made by shock waves from the high speed stellar winds emitted by the massive Wolf-Rayet star which is visible in the centre of the brain.
North is at 5 o'clock and one sees on the left the start of the large nebulosity around Gamma Cygnus (the Butterfly, IC 1318).
The Halpha filter does miracles: this shot was taken during the full moon and right in light polluted Aix en Provence. F10, focal length 2030mm, compound of 4 shots of 360s each plus good flats and darks as usual.
