Migrating Snow Goose in Flight

            Migrating Snow Geese at Middle Creek WMA.

Even though the lake at Middle Creek was still mostly frozen the migrating snow geese, tundra swans and other water fowl have eventually arrived. Based on my photographs from previous years, the migration is at least two later this year. Supposedly there are more than 140,000 snow geese and 1,000 tundra swans migrating through Middle Creek WMA this year.

This number of snow geese is a fantastic sight, but I have found it is impossible to capture the scope and size of this sight with a 400 mm lens - and interestingly autofocus gets completely confused by  the massive flocks of birds.
