Scarab Beetle (Scarabaeidae, Coleoptera) on Phacelia (Boraginaceae) flowers - Paracotalpa ursina?

            This is a fairly large Scarab Beetle (Scarabaeidae, Coleoptera) on blue Phacelia (Boraginaceae or Hydrophyllaceae) flowers on the Carrizo Plain.  The beetle is probably species Paracotalpa ursina.  I'm not sure what kind of phacelia it is, but maybe it's theTansy-leaf Phacelia (Phacelia tanacetifolia) with pale flowers and long stamens?  Compare the phacelia in my [Previous] photo.  I didn't find many insects in the Carrizo Plain last week, which is surprising considering how many wildflowers there were.  I really believe most wildflowers don't need pollinators, but every once and a while they help mix up the genes.
