89 001 Huntingdon Sept 1988

            The unique BREL/Brush class 89 Co-Co electric locomotive 89 001 works a Kings Cross - Peterborough commuter service in September, 1988.

The locomotive was built in 1986 as a prototype for high speed trains on the East Coast Main Line, but the plans changed, and the 140 mph class 91s were introduced instead. 

Named 'Avocet' in 1989, 89 001 remained a one-off until withdrawn in 2000.  Subsequently in 2007, it was purchased for preservation by the AC Locomotive Group.

The location of this picture is Huntingdon, the final stop before Peterborough.
