1960'RD3414. Calais 26Jun1960

            1960/06/26.RD3414.  A sight once familiar to thousands of cross-channel travellers, the French car-ferry COMPIÈNGE at Calais Maritime.  Launched in March, 1958, she entered service in June of that year and worked on the Dover - Calais, Dover - Boulogne and Newhaven - Dieppe routes before retirement in 1981 having made 22,712 channel crossings.

Following retirement from the English Channel, she saw further service in the Middle East.  However, in this shot at Calais on the 26th June, 1960, she was only two years old.
