160701 AM - Sainte Marie among the Hurons (99)

            Canada Day, July 1, 2016 was cool, overcast and frequently rainy. That didn't stop us from visiting and enjoying one of Midland's many attractions: Sainte Marie among the Hurons, a reconstruction of a short lived (1639 to 1649) 17th Century mission founded by French Jesuits and populated by native Huron (Wendat) Indians, many of whom converted to Christianity. The experiment lasted only 10 years before Iroquois attacks led to its demise. The reconstruction is a wonderful living museum well worth a visit.
