2020 - Buenos Aires - San Telmo - Bar El Federal

            It's our second full day in Buenos Aires and we are on a self guided walking tour through some of the sites in the central city.  

We are the corner of Perú and Carlos Calvo heading north on Perú,  the direction of the arrow.
El Federal was a happy hour favourite from a previous trip and we did a one evening stop here on this trip.

Bar El Federal is the second oldest bar in Buenos Aires, and has been sitting on this corner in San Telmo since 1858.

The antique building started out as a pulpería (general store), the seedy center of a gambling ring and a brothel before it was converted to the restaurant and bar in 1864.

By Resolution of the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires No. 520/2004  November 25, 2004, El Federal  was declared a "Site of Cultural Interest (notable bar) as a witness to an era and the neighbourhood of San Telmo ".
