A Fashionable Evening - a photo on Flickriver

            Just as I entered the grounds of the stately 1868 Rippon Lea mansion the heavens opened up and I along with several other guests made a dash for cover under the chiffon draped verandah which looked even more beautiful dotted with tiny fairy and star shaped lights.

Poolside we sipped champagne and feasted on a selection of delicious canapés as the rain persisted to fall . . . umbrellas of all shapes and sizes mounted against the wall . . . forming a colourful display of their own.

Last Thusday night I was lucky enough to attend the preview of The Dressmaker exhibition . . . and as the sun set we gathered in the mansion's stately ballroom under the beautiful chandeliers where the nigths formalities took place . . . presentations from the author herself and the costume designers too, before a tour of the stunning exhibition.

Rippon Lea was the perfect setting . . . and upon entering the mansion and the exhibition you were instantly transported to the dusty town of Dungatar in the 1950s, and experienced the journey of transformation through the artful and luxurious costumes worn by Kate Winslet and the cast of The Dressmaker . . . the exhibition reveals how the costumes, inspired by Parisian couture, were made and developed for the film. It is a celebration of fashion and the Australian landscape and is a must see.

I am yet to read the book or see the movie but now I am inspired to do both!
