Le pont sur le Cher.

Les deux premières arches du pont, côté ville (à gauche), furent occupées par les roues d'un moulin jusqu'en 1847. Le moulin était assis moitié sur le pont, moitié sur une structure en bois. Il s'agissait d'un moulin "pendu", construit vers le milieu du XVIIIe siècle  et supprimé en 1845. 

La troisème arche, l'arche "marinière", était réservée à la navigation guidée par un pertuis vers l'amont. Le Cher était navigable : Ainsi, en 1563, une convention est signée entre Pierre Daguyneau, marchand  voiturier par eau et les dirigeants de la ville de Bourges. Celui-ci doit, tous les deux mois,  amener de la ville de Selles-sur-Cher jusqu’au port de la Chappe à Bourges, par les rivières du Cher, de l’Yèvre et de l’Auron deux bateaux chargés de blé, vin, pastel, guède, ardoise, pierre, tuiles ou

Le Cher, affluent de la Loire a été sillonné par des bateaux transportant des marchandises jusqu'au XIXe siècle. Activité maintenue jusqu'à la construction du canal du Berry. 

En des temps anciens, la septième arche était occupée par un pont-levis.
