Star Trails 002 - a photo on Flickriver

Star Trails 002

            My first attempts at shooting star trails.  Taken at the Canyon Point Campground near Forest Lakes, Arizona. There was no moon, and the Milky Way was quite visible. It was pretty windy, so the trees aren't quite as sharp as I would like.

I used a Nikon D5000 with the kit lens (Nikkor 1:3.5-5.6) in manual focus mode at 18mm. Total exposure time was 20 minutes, ISO 200 with EV -1.0 (this camera does not have ISO 100), aperture at F/4.  Tripod mounted.

Shot in RAW format, processed in Paintshop Pro (just tweaked the contrast and sharpened slightly).
