Barry Desert - a photo on Flickriver

Barry Desert

My English contacts may know of Barry as home of Stacey from Gavin & Stacey.
My Welsh contacts may shudder at the thought of summer holidays at Barry Island..

But not many will know that 220 million years ago Barry and indeed most of South Wales was a hot desert in the arid belt north of the Equator..

Meat eating Theropod dinosaurs roamed the area, leaving their footprints here to this day.

I love this area already.. it sits in the grim reality of an industrial estate, it has the exciting geology of Sully Island but without the hassle of the tide restriction. It has a dragon backed rock, emerging from the sea at high tide, exposed and reachable at low tide. It has rocky bits, sandy bits, a lighthouse and views towards the setting sun.

I think I just found my 'muse' for the summer!
I went for a 'quick look' last night - not intending to get the camera out.. thick cloud, spots of rain, darkness approaching but after a quick explore and the hint of a bit of light near the horizon - the voice from the camera bag got ever louder!

"let me out!" it demanded.
Who am I to disobey?
