N55243 (Pacific Air Transport ) - a photo on Flickriver

            N55243 - Aviation Traders ATL-98 Carvair - Pacific Air Express
at Honolulu International Airport (HNL) in January 1986

c/n 18.342 - conversion 17 - built in 1944 as a C-54 for the USAF - converted to ATR-98 in 1964
The aircraft was intended for Interocean, but not taken and stored until 1969. Operated by BAF and SF Air in Europe until 1979. Aero Union operated the Carvair between 1979 and 1983. Pacific Air Express operated 2 Carvairs on inter-island cargo services between 1983 and 1985.
After the end of this operation the aircraft was ferried to Naples/Florida intended for Great Southern Airways, but never entered operation again. After many years of storage the aircraft was broken up at Naples in 1996
