            This portrait of David Unaipon (1872-1967), an Aboriginal Australian of the Ngarrindjeri people was taken by Harold Cazneaux c.1934. Unaipon was a renowned inventor, author, and preacher who made significant contributions to Australia and helped challenge prevailing stereotypes about Aboriginal people. Unaipon’s inventions, although not fully patented, ranged from a modified shearing handpiece to a mechanical propulsion device. As an author, he holds the distinction of being the first Aboriginal writer to be published and his legacy was commemorated on the Australian $50 note.
