Cereus Peruvian Apple Night Blooming Cactus

            This is a night-blooming cereus otherwise known as Queen of the night.  For most of the year this cactus appearance is not very pleasing.  The flower blooms midsummer after the sun goes down unlike most flowers.  Once the sun starts to rise the next morning the blooms are hidden away.
The flower is from 4 to 8 inches.  The flowers only last for a couple nights most often only one night. This cactus itself is stands about 20 to 25 feet, I can’t be sure because I am not climbing around the spines to measure it. They can grow up to 33 feet.
It does have edible fruit with the skin being pink.  The pretty flowers and edible fruit are no indicator of the strength of these cactus.  The cane-like wood has been used in construction.
