The Good Shepherd

            In Komic village with less than 150 residents at 15100 ft in Spiti valley, herding is one of the main occupations. Cattle are looked after, grazed and then shredded for their wool to produce all kinds of winter wear. While we were there in June, we saw sheep, horses, cows and yaks. The residents of the village take turns in taking the cattle still up higher for grazing. In the evening, around the time of sunset, it is a beautiful sight to watch the women of the household call for their beloved animals and the animals in turn sprinting up to their houses. What is more drama filled are those mischievous cattle who are not satisfied with the day's graze and wander around, leaving their owners to chase after them.
