John and Elsie McMillan House - a photo on Flickriver

            The John and Elsie McMillan House is located in Sturgis, Meade County, South Dakota. The Queen Anne house was built in 1887, and was perhaps based on plans for a nearly-identical design that was published in the 1885 book by J.H. Kirby called "Modern Cottages."  John McMillan started a mercantile business in Sturgis in 1881 and served in various local political offices.  Jack and Annie Hale acquired the house in 1903.  Jack Hale was in freighting, stock-raising, and banking, and served on the territorial legislature.  The house is locally significant under Criterion C for Architecture and was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on October 30, 2015.
