Forgotten WWII Sugar Train - a photo on Flickriver

Before WWII, Saipan had a very successful sugarcane business with a narrow gauge railroad running all around the island. The train brought the cane from the fields to the sugar mill. The intense American bombing during the Battle of Saipan destroyed the trains, tracks, sugar mill and even the sugarcane fields putting a permanent end to the business. Very little evidence exists today of Saipan's thriving sugarcane industry. This piece of one of the trains has been sitting here for 70 years while the jungle grew around it.
