This is the view from the mountain Råna in the heart of the wild and rugged mountain chain Sunnmørsalpane in Møre og Romsdal county in Western Norway. At 1586m it is the highest peaks of Sykkylven Kommune. It offers great views of the surrounding alpine landscape. While the view southwards reaches as far as Jostedalsbreen (continental Europe's largest glacier), one can see the region's main city Ålesund to the North. To the East, at the mountain's foot lies the idyllic valley Regndal and above it Sunnmøre's largest glacier Regndalsbreen.
Råna can be reached from Urkedalen via Nordkopen within 4 to 5 hours of hiking. The route includes class 2+ (YDS) scrambling sections and large accumulations of avalanche snow might force you to leave the path and chose an alternative ascent route throughout the whole hiking season.

One of the things I like best about this part of the world is that high alpine nature can be enjoyed from as low as 1000m above sea level. This particular shot was taken at 1586m, where snow and ice reign pretty much year round. I love the outer-worldly somewhat misplaced feeling I get when venturing into their realm in the mountains.
