Binot Orchid Garden - a photo on Flickriver

The story begins when Jean Baptiste Binot, a landscaper, decides to leave Europe and chooses Rio de Janeiro as a destination.
In 1845, in Petropolis, he established himself as gardener-horticulturist, selling plants and fruit trees. He was then commissioned by the Emperor Dom Pedro II in 1854 to design and execute the gardens of the Summer Imperial Palace in Petropolis.
As a prize for the work performed at the Palace, the Emperor gave him lands to create the Orchid Garden.
