M81 and M82 with INF - a photo on Flickriver

            This is Messier 81 (Bode's Galaxy) and 82 (Cigar Galaxy).  They are close to each other and strongly interacting.  This has apparently caused M82 to be particularly prolific in star birth - 10 times the rate of our own Milky Way.  They are approximately 12 light years from us and are located in Ursa Major (near the Big Dipper).

The cloudy nebulous look of the sky is from the Intergrated Flux Nebula.  A nebula that exists just outside of our galaxy which is inert (dead) gas lit up by the glow of the Milky Way. 

Taken remotely from Utah USA on an 11 inch RASA telescope and a ZWO ASI 2600 camera.

Integration:  1.5 hours (only!) with 4 min subs.
