PS Ryde, Isle of Wight - a photo on Flickriver

            The PS Ryde was built for the Portsmouth-Ryde route by the Southern Railway in 1937.  A veteran of the Normandy landings, the Ryde was the last of the Isle of Wight paddlesteamers, being withdrawn from service in 1969.  Today this historic vessel lies rotting on the eastern bank of the river Medina.  The funnel collapsed in 2006 and now hangs over the side of the hull.
