Strendur

            Strendur (Danish: Strænder) is a village on the Faroese island Eysturoy, located along at the west side of Skálafjørður in Sjóvar Municipality.

The village is located at Skálafjørður's west side on Eysturoy, and is the administrative center for Sjóvar municipality.
Beaches have a mission house, bank, savings bank, medical center and in 1996 the municipality bought the former dance house, which, after enlargement, serves as a community house and holiday home.
The fish factory Vaðhorn Seafood is a fish fillet factory while Viking Seafood is a salmon slaughterhouse.
The wolf manufacturer 'Snældan' manufactures traditional Faroese jerseys and new designs in Faroese wool, which are also exported. In addition, many smaller companies.

In the center of the village near the fjord, at the site Sjógv, is one of the traditional Faroese wooden churches dating from 1834. A new cemetery has been built a good distance away from the church. I 2013-14 built a new church house at the church. There are mission houses, banks and savings banks. A kindergarten with room for 90 children opened on November 4, 2006. South of the village of Raktangi is a memorial for missing seamen. The area is suitable for hiking.

The first school in Strendur was built in 1887. From 1933 to 1963 there were 4 classes with different years and in 1966 there were two additional classes. 1969, the new school was built and in 2006 there were 255 students and 22 teachers.

Bus No. 400 runs to Skálabotnur, where to change two bus no. 480 to drive to Tórshavn or Klaksvík.

The work on making Eysturoyartunnilin (Østerøtunnelen) started at the end of 2016. On February 21, 2017, drilling was started. The tunnel is an underwater tunnel with a roundabout under the sea approx. between Runavík and Strendur under Skálafjørður. 
The tunnel will connect both "arms" of Skálafjørður with Tórshavn. More precisely, the tunnel comes up to the surface three places: In Runavík, in Strendur and in Hvidnes near Tórshavn. After the plan, both Eysturoyartunnilin and Sandoyartunnilin, both of which will be underwater tunnels, will be completed by 2021.

Eysturoyartunnilin will shorten the distance between Strendur and Tórshavn from 75 km to 17 km.
