Cruxifix Drawing to Bishop Howard Hubbard, Albany, NY c.1979

            Years ago, while attending Cathedral Academy, the then Father Howard Hubbard was serving as Principal at the school. President Kennedy was in office and America, as we knew it, was main-streaming on economic growth with the darkness of Civil Rights looming around it...and the onset of the Vietnam War following close behind.

Father Hubbard was a rare personality, a person whom showed compassion and tolerance. He was instrumental in having me take advanced art classes at the Cardinal McCloskey High School while I attended third grade at Cathedral Academy. The following year, I served as an altar-boy at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of which, at times, I and the other twelve would sometimes pun jokes as we looked out at the sea of faithful  people in the pews during Sunday Mass. Cathedral Church was always packed and over-packed during the Easter and Christmas services.

That was yesteryear...

When Father Hubbard became the Bishop of the Albany Diocese, I presented him this pencil drawing of the Cruxifiction. I was then at the Albany City Arts Office by way of the strong backing and support of the late Mayor Erastus Corning 2nd.
