Wire-less - a photo on Flickriver

Wire-less

            Old Glasgow Corporation street lighting column and electricity junction box bearing the City Coat of Arms. The overhead wires are gone but the post remains, almost like a statue now! Many of the streetlights in the city are still on posts of the same vintage as this one, still powered with overhead wires, and some of these columns would also have supported the electricity cables for the tram network which closed in 1962. The photo is over-exposed (and generally of poor quality!) to allow the colour of the junction box to be seen in the late evening dusk. The lamppost would originally have been painted green too.
