Bass Harbor Lobster Traps - a photo on Flickriver

            The village of Bass Harbor is a top lobster producing location in Maine.

The village is located within the town of Tremont on Mount Desert Island, and serves as a terminal for ferries to both Swans Island and Frenchboro.

Apparently, in the early 20th century, federal officials built a post office for the town and asked for the name that should be used, and someone remarked, "Name it after the president for all we care."  As a result, Bass Harbor was known as McKinley from that time until 1961 when local residents petitioned to return to the original name.
