08350_0709_Swanwich_Jcn - a photo on Flickriver

            D3420 is a recent arrival at the Midland Railway Centre when photographed here on the 30th September 2007 along side the new diesel shed. 

Locomotive History
Built at Crewe works it entered traffic in December 1957 allocated to Cardiff East Dock MPD. In November 1962 it transferred across the city to Cardiff Cathays and in November 1964 to Cardiff Canton. I first saw this engine on Canton shed on the 11th May 1969 and again on the 8th July 1973 when it was Barry Docks pilot in company with 3423. Renumbered 08350 in the 1973 TOPS renumbering scheme it was still a Cardiff engine when withdrawn in January 1984. Since then it has had spells on the Churnet Valley Railway and at Crewe LNWR before arriving at Swanwick in September 2007. However in 2008 it was sold for breaking up and left the Midland Railway Centre in the middle of September 2008 for Ron Hull's yard in Rotherham, and was eventually broken up during March 2010.
