Ousel Falls - a photo on Flickriver

Ousel Falls

            Enjoyed a wonderful hike to this beautiful double-ledge 100 foot waterfall that is on the outskirts of the the Big Sky Montana Resort.   The flow was seasonly low which allowed the moss underneath to show up nicely.

The falls is named after the Water Ousel:
"Thought to be one of naturalist John Muir’s favorite birds of all times, the Water Ouzel, also known as the American Dipper, is a minute bird typically found in the high mountains of North and Central America. These accomplished avian divers are dark gray or brown in color, with distinctive white feathers found on their eyelids. They are able to hunt for food underwater by ducking, thanks to their nictitating membrane and flaps that keep water from entering their nostrils while they pluck their food from rushing streams."
