A Smile That Embodies Juneteenth - a photo on Flickriver

Today marks Juneteenth National Independence Day, a federal holiday observed annually on June 19th to commemorate the abolition of slavery in the United States. This day represents celebration for Black people and a time for reflection among white people.

About this photograph: This woman radiates joy and displays a genuine smile. I brought a Japanese group to Geoffrey's Inner Circle, an Oakland jazz venue that ranks among my favorites — a hidden gem for live jazz performances, typically open only on Sunday evenings. The usual audience is primarily Black, so our group of ten Japanese visitors and one Caucasian notably stood out. The atmosphere is welcoming, conversations flow easily, and the venue attracts fascinating personalities to be photographed.

I processed a balanced and a photographic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, carefully adjusted the color balance and curves, and desaturated the image. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.
