Sulphur Mountain, Stormy Evening - a photo on Flickriver

I took this from the viewing deck on Sulphur Mountain in Banff, Alberta, a couple of weeks ago. It was getting late and the conditions on the mountain were deteriorating as a thunder storm moved in. I took a few images of the dramatic scene before heading to the gondola to descend back to the town. What followed was quite an adventure: the gondola stopped shortly after we had started the descent and we were left dangling for nearly two hours as the daylight faded. Eventually the machinery came back to life and we were able to complete the descent. It turned out that a lightning strike had caused a power cut to the town and the cable car. Even when power was restored, those that tried to leave after us had to spend the night on the mountain. The unlucky ones included a newly married couple who'd only gone up for some scenic wedding photographs.
