Spring sunlight on Sychryd waterfall

Went on a waterfall trek with flickr friend Rob to visit a waterfall I had seen marked on a 1906 Ordnance Survey map, but which isn't mentioned on later maps. It was a tough trek, especially when the footpath disappeared and we had to find our own way, crossing the river twice to get to the falls.

This is the first set of falls we came to, near the entrances to the old Dinas Silica Mine which was in operation until the 1960s quarrying underground to provide silica sand for refractory bricks to line furnaces. I really wanted to get in closer by that first rock just to the left of the front of the falls but it was so slippery I didn't feel it was worth the risk in the temperature that afternoon - maybe in the summer!
