Kitchen, Old Thoeny Homestead, Valley County MT

The kitchen of the old Thoeny house is small, but it has great big windows that stretch almost to the floor. Can you imagine having coffee early in the morning at the table and getting to have that view? So nice!
Late in the fall, just before the snow came, I adventured to this little homestead in the middle of nothing but prairie and wind and birdsongs--the Big Empty. This place is located in such remote prairie, it's closer to Canada than anything else at all. It makes you wonder how the family that lived here stuck it out for so long. I don't know much about them, just that they purchased this house from a Sears and Roebuck catalogue. It's a catalogue house, and it still stands against the harsh wind and sun and snow. You can still see some of it's paint job--a yellowed white with blue trim. This homestead really moved me--it hurt to see it decaying away and knowing no one would save it. I wanted to take the old iron bedsteads and the kitchen table just to preserve something, but of course I didn't. To whomever this house now belongs...it's beautiful :) I love it.
