Legacy Astrophotography: Milky Way Triptych

            In August 2013, I suffered a heart attack and full cardiac arrest.  I was fortunate to have a great team bring me back after about 20 minutes of lifelessness. That's 20 minutes I got to experience death.  I can only say that you won't mind death.  It is not an experience, like the time before your birth.

In the summer of 2014 I obtained the large 400mm optic for my Pentax 67.  I had always wanted to do astrophotography with this lens.  Now recovered and back to good health I was back at it again and going full steam into my favorite pastime -
 analog astrophotography. 

From the logbook, June 27-28, 2014

"A wonderful streach of clear skies is upon us.  Tonight has above average transparency with good darkness.  SQM 21.56 mags/sq-arc-sec

Continuing roll of Acros in the 6x7.  Trimmed trees the other evening to allow imaging to about -30 declination.  South Horizon looks great now!!

Received Tiffen Haze 2E filter today.  Using filter with 400 Takumar tonight.

The Great Star Cloud

Guiding was good, especially at the higher declinations.  The old Meade seemed to carry the monstrous 400/4 well, at low to mid declinations.

With the 2E filter focus to infinity is reached by focusing closer.  The mark rests at the left of the "2" in the 200M mark.

Shooting the 400 f/4 SMC Takumar achieves a major goal in analog astrophotography for me.  It's nice to be back and at the top of my game!  I'm expecting great results from these recent images."
