Tiger Oscar Cichlid (Astronotus ocellatus)

            The tiger oscar (Astronotus ocellatus) is also known as velvet cichlid or marble cichlid.
They are native to Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Brazil, and French Guiana, occurring in the Amazon River basin, in slow-moving white-water habitats.

Oscars will often lay claim to an area of the aquarium and will be very aggressive towards other fish encroaching on their newly established territory inside the aquarium or lake. 

This oscar was happily absorbing the sun's rays through it's body, hence the translucent glow.  Shortly afterwards, it buffeted an innocent puffer-fish that was minding it's own business.
