COPAN BALLCOURT as seen looking Southwest from the northeast corner of the Ballcourt Terrace toward the north stairway of Copán Temple 11 and Copán Stela N in the spectacular Copán Mayan Ruins in Honduras. Copán Stela N is a representation of the 12th Ruler of Copán, Smoke Shell.

The Mayan Ballgame was played here. On either side of this Mayan Ball Court playing surface are sloping walls. At the top of these sloping walls on either side of the ballcourt are mounted three Copán Macaw Head Ball Court Markers, one at each end of the ballcourt and one at midcourt. The three Mayan Macaw Head Ballcourt Markers on the west side of the Ballcourt are visible in this photo. The Macaw Head Marker in the left foreground is at the northeast corner of the Ballcourt.

At the base of the north stairway of Temple 11 stands Copán Stela N. Copán Stela N is pictured close up from various angles in other photos of my Flickr photostream.

The north end of the Copán Ballcourt is bounded by a raised terrace from which I took this photo. This raised terrace is the site of Copan Stela 2 and Copán Atlar L, both of which are located out of view to my right side interecting with the north-south center axis of the Ballcourt.

The Copán Great Plaza, begins just behind my position and extends to the north.
