YELLOW-TAILED ORIOLE Icterus mesomelas. A Yellow-tailed Oriole has been drinking nectar from the cup-like flowers of the leguminous tree Erythrina megistophylla Diels, family Fabaceae, along the Vía Cunuco, about two miles north of Mindo, in northwestern Ecuador at 9:47 AM on July 14, 2018.

Erythrina megistophylla is ENDEMIC to Ecuador and has flowers adapted to pollination by passerine (perching) birds. We have observed a variety of passerine birds, as well as a number of hummingbird species, drinking nectar from these flowers. One of the common names of this plant is Porotón.

The Yellow-tailed Oriole is a member of the avian family Icteridae and ranges from southeastern Mexico through Central America to Colombia, northwestern Venezuela, Ecuador and northwestern Perú. The local common name of this oriole is Chiroca.

Un Bolsero Coliamarillo Icterus mesomelas ha pasado un rato bebiendo néctar de las flores del árbol Erythrina megistophylla Diels, familia Fabaceae, a la orilla de la Vía Cunuco unos 4 kilometros al norte de Mindo en el noroeste de Ecuador a las 9 y 47 de la mañana el 14 de julio de 2018. Un nombre común de la planta es Porotón.
