            Old Steel Railroad Bridge

View up the Old Steel Railroad bridge, propped up over Hillsborough River, a.k.a. Tampa Riverwalk. 

Propped and displayed, old historic drawbridge railroad, part of the railroad that Henry B. Plant (the Godfather of Tampa Bay) started here in Tampa, way back in the 1880's. Henry B. Plant, railroad magnate, successful businessman, and founder of the Plant System of railroads and steamboats, brought the railroad to Tampa in 1884. Plant’s railroad connected downtown Tampa to the rest of the east coast and to Port Tampa, where people could board a Plant steamship to Havana, Jamaica, New Orleans, New York, Bermuda, or other destinations. The railroad and along with the Tampa Hotel constructed between 1888-91, with examples of Moorish and Turkish architecture, brought new commerce and exploded Tampa as a port for business both local, national, and international boar and steam ship travel from Cuba and other parts of the Caribbean. One of the original accidental uses for the hotel was also for hosting American forces, the press, political intrigue and influence both foreign and domestic and anyone else of note that was interested in the war. as well as during the Spanish-American War. But I digress, maybe more on that later, it would be a fascinating television series I'm sure. 

The Tampa Hotel is now a historical landmark and part of the University of Tampa, with the south wing now the Henry B. Plant museum.
