A Sort of Glorious 'High-Tech' Folly from the 60s.

            Four volumes of “ Chinese Art in Three-Dimensional Colour” by Harry M. Garner
and Margaret Medley;

The set of books is in mint condition, whilst the viewmaster works beautifully. It was a model which had a focussing wheel, it has been refurbished. The stand was designed (invented) by William Gruber, he also invented the Viewmaster. He was an avid Chinese Art Collector, so he approached these two Academics (Medley and Garner), two of the most famous Chinese Art writers/ Academics of their (or any) day. Together they worked on this 4 volume book. It was Gruber's  swan song, he died before completing it. Apparently it was to be a limited edition of 1,000. but only around 300 were ever printed. It is a fairly fabulous folly, merging high Academia (in Chinese Art) with this early 3D technology. I love his vision, and I love this crazy contraption.
I have a hazy memory of having one as a child, with Lone Ranger, and Niagara Falls reels.
