Belted Kingfisher - Megaceryle alcyon

            Anyone who has tried to take a picture of a Belted Kingfisher knows how skittish these birds are. They usually fly off when someone gets anywhere near them. I saw this bird perched by the side of the road and drove up to it slowly, fully expecting it to fly off as soon as I stopped and reached for my camera. To my surprise, it stayed put. I'm not thrilled about all of the branches in the background but I'll take what I can get with these birds.

This was taken last winter in Orange County, Florida, USA.
