Velo Orange Campeur 59cm, Singlespeed Commuter

This is a Velo Orange Campeur 59 cm touring frameset single-speed conversion, built in May, June, and July 2018.

It's a mixture of used and new parts listed below. I did the parts selection, building, and wiring myself with thanks to the guys at Velo Orange (Annapolis, MD) for advice and at Sid's Bikes (West 19th Street, Chelsea, NYC) for assistance when mechanical trickiness exceeded my paygrade. And thanks to my "wifeycita" for not fussing during the weeks that our apartment looked like a bike shop. :-)

Headset: VO Grand Cru 1” Sealed Bearing Threaded
Handlebar: Nitto Albatross (shortened about 1”)*
Handlebar tape: Newbaums Brown Cotton Cloth
Stem: Nitto Technomic, 120mm reach, 25.4mm clamp*
Brake levers: Tektro RX4 Inverse*
Saddle: Brooks B17*
Seat post: Rivendell/Nitto S83*
Wheels: Shimano DH-S501 Alfine Dynamo Front Hub (36h), Surly Ultra New Single Speed MTB Rear Hub (135mm x 36h, single speed, silver), Sun CR18 rims (700/29 x 36 Hole, polished silver), DT Swiss Brass Nipples (12mm, silver), DT Swiss Competition Butted Spokes (2.0-1.8mm, silver), custom build by Universal Cycles (Portland, OR) with 3-cross (front) and 4-cross (rear) lacing
Tires: Rivendell Jack Brown Green ("light"), 700x33.3333c*
Tubes: Continental 42mm Presta Valve, 700 x 28-47cc
Fenders: VO 700c Hammered, 45mm, aluminum alloy (tires up to 37mm wide)
Skewers: Pinhead locks (front not pictured)
Crankset: VO Grand Cru Fluted Single Crankset, CR-0034-165, 165mm crankarm length, 44 teeth, BCD 110mm, Q-factor 134mm, square taper
Bottom bracket: Shimano Cartridge BB-UN55 non-splined axle
Pedals: MKS "Sneakers" (RMX)
Freewheel: White Industries ENO, 20t ("Red")
Chain tensioner: Paul, Melvin, silver
Chain: VO KMC X9, 9 speed
Chain guard: VO Alloy Chainguard, 44T
Brakes: Tektro CR720 Cantilever Brakes
Front brake cable hanger: Tektro, adjusting barrel
Front rack: VO Porteur, stainless steel tubing (hacksawed and mounted using middle tang hole)
Rear rack: Rivendell/Nitto Big Back Rack, Large 33R (“9mm tubular CrMo which is then nickel-plated... joints are fillet-brazed, and the stressed areas are de-stressed by triangles”)
Headlight: Schmidt Upside-Down Edelux II Generator Headlight (switched, polished, rear light connection, 140cm wire; for wiring, I found blog posts by Jan Heine and Peter White and the Thorn Cycles Forum particularly helpful)
Headlight wiring adapter: Shimano Connector Plug for Nexus Generator (Dynamo), model #HU8216 (yes, German lights work on Japanese dyno hubs; it's all 6-volt AC).
Headlight mount: VO Rack to Light Bracket
Tail light: Schmidt SON, rack mount, silver housing, clear lens, for dynohub generator (installation on Nitto rack's standard mounts with holes 50mm on center is elegant; wiring to front light is somewhat kludgy)
Kickstand: Single leg Pletscher with rubber foot; Rivendell's "shorty bolt"
Cage: Circa-2008 King stainless water bottle cage

* Purchased used (usually eBay); all other parts are new from Rivendell Bicycle Works, Velo Orange, and Harris Cyclery.
