Southern Vectis Old Girl meets London Transport Wide Boy in Brighton

            Bristol Commercial Vehicles of 1939 meets Leyland Commercial Vehicles of 1949 in this view of Southern Vectis's open-top Bristol K 502 affectionately nicknamed the 'Old Girl' by the Southern Vectis operating staff parked up on display alongside former London Transport wide Leyland PD2 RTW 185 dating from 1949. This fleet of Leyland RTWs were the first 8-foot wide motorbuses to be delivered new to London Transport between 1949 and 1950 where they had to receive special dispensation from the City of London Police in order to safely pass alongside each other along the historic narrow streets within the Corporation of London.
