As Portsmouth is a seaside city back in the 1960s some of Portsmouth Corporation's vehicles were converted to open-top form where they ran in the summer seasons on the bus routes serving Southsea, which is the seaside resort district of Portsmouth. During the summer seasons in the 1960s these Portsmouth Corporation open-toppers ran alongside the apple green & cream open-top bus fleet of Southdown Motor Services in and around the city where their upper decks were always full during the summer months! In this view former Portsmouth Corporation open-top Leyland PD2 fleetnumber 4 is seen after its arrival in East Street in Old Portsmouth in its smart 1950s Portsmouth Corporation Transport maroon & white livery. Interestingly back in the 1950s and early 1960s Portsmouth Corporation's motorbus fleet was predominantly made up of Leyland vehicles whilst Portsmouth Corporation's trolleybus fleet at the time was predominantly made up of AEC vehicles.
