Species Cereus peruvianus monstrose variety monstrose-(Major) Has similar bloom and stem colorations as Cereus peruvianus-regular form described below but the stem growth of Cereus peruvianus monstrose variety-(Major) has contorted rib edges with bumps and some stems even have partial twisted or contorted stem growth. Stem growth of Cereus peruvianus monstrose variety monstrose-(Major) is also larger in diameter than var. Minor, averaging 4" to 6"+ in diameter and often even larger. This unusual growth is an occasional amorality in nature that has been duplicated by way of cloned cuttings.
Note : This monstrose variety Cereus peruvianus monstrose var. Major will produce blooms and edible fruit similar to the normal non-monstrose species linked/described below, but the seeds inside the fruit pulp and subsequent seedling plants if germinated/produced will not necessarily be true monstrose in form. Only cloned cuttings will produce the same plant

Cereus peruvianus monstrose var. minor

Description of Cereus peruvianus non-monstrose or regular form : Cereus peruvianus has a medium to large bloom aprox. 6” to 10” in diameter that are nocturnal (night blooming), semi-funnel form. Blooms have a white colored center and white-rose to pink colored back petals. Flower tubes are light green, very long tube extending 8 to 10” in length on average. The stamens and anthers are cream colored.

Edible Fruit; Has a spineless reddish exterior-(some clones can have yellowish exteriors but less common). The pulp is juicy and very tasty. It has a sweetness like sugarcane but with a crunchy texture. Flesh is white with many edible small crunchy black seeds. Self pollinating clone, not all grown by all growers are self pollinating but can be pollinated by another nearby as Cereus peruvianus is very fertile.

Growth; Cereus peruvianus has large columnar green-grey cylindrical growth but can be somewhat self branching or tree like producing large arms from many of the large columns. It has thick (20cm+) main stems, many ribbed type growth with small thorns on the ribbed edges. Cereus peruvianus can reach up to 30’ ft.+ in height at maturity.
