Pilosocereus magnificus ( Pic 1 stem growth )

            Cactus species Pilosocereus magnificus a columnar cactus that can have variable characteristics 
 with the number of ribs often varying, but usually there are five to seven. The plant branches, both from the base and also higher up the stems. The body is a strong slate blue with whitish areoles that are covered in brownish yellow spines running continuously up the ribs of the plant. There are normally 10-14 radial spines and six to eight central which are slightly longer than the radials. They are so close together that they look like a continuous dense brown line. When the plant is old enough it will produce a pseudocephalium or hairy beard along ribs usually on one side that receives more light but can be on all sides-ribs. Pilosocereus magnificus can grow 6-10ft. tall. Not very hardy in winter any temps below 40 degrees can usually bring rot to the apex, especially on young plants so needs protection in winter. The grey-bluish covering often leaves finger prints when handled. A highly sought after species for many collectors.
