The Resident Gnu!

            The Blue Wildebeest (Connochaetes taurinus), also called the common wildebeest, white-bearded wildebeest, or brindled gnu, is a large antelope and one of the two species of wildebeest. 
Wildebeest are famous world over for their annual migration, which is one of the “Seven New Wonders of the World” and also known as The World Cup of Wildlife. But a lesser known fact is that there are many wildebeest who are resident of their areas and don't migrate with the huge herds. In Maasai Mara we have the resident wildebeest who are found year around in the Loita Hills and closer to home we have the resident herds of Nairobi National Park. They move around the neighbouring conservancies in search of fresh grass and water. In the drier months they move in to the Park for the water from the numerous dams located inside the Park. 
 
This handsome wildebeest is a member of the resident herd of Nairobi National Park, Kenya and was photographed on an early morning game drive.
