Northern Pintails (Anas acuta); Bosque del Apache NWR, NM [Lou Feltz]

            This shallow-water specialist is often found in numerous flocks in winter. This group is enjoying the main lake at this Refuge. I have regularly found them here. The lake is located at the start of the tour-route road. This group comprised two hens and two drakes... perhaps a mated twosome getting an early start on the upcoming breeding season. However, the two drakes are clearly of different ages. (One of the hens was photoshy... she slipped off to the left.)
