A Future Past

            This is one of my favourite works at MONA and I'm embarrassed to say I don't know its name or the artist. That's partly because there are no labels at MONA, the electronic tour guide called the "O" is designed to tell you everything about the works of art. But for me at the time it was a matter of holding a camera not a device. So if someone can identify this piece for me all the better.

It has shades of Wyndham Lewis to me with a little of Picasso's fetish for ancient African masks. But of course it is by a contemporary artist - and a fine piece of thought-provoking work it really is.

The reason this one stayed on the cutting room floor two years ago was that, (1) I didn't have software to straighten it - and that is essential in displaying art, and (2) I didn't have the processing skill to salvage this handheld image with manual focus from its dark cocoon. I hope, like me, you find this uncocooned butterfly a thing of beauty.
