"Tilia platyphyllos" flowers (Large-leaved Linden)

            Tilia platyphyllos is a deciduous tree native to much of Europe, including locally in southwestern Great Britain, growing on lime-rich soils. The common name Large-leaved Linden is in standard use throughout the English-speaking world except in Britain, where it has largely (but not universally) been replaced by the name Large-leaved Lime. It is frequently planted as an ornamental tree in parks, or as a shade tree or a lawn tree. It has been introduced in the US (New England).

Il Tiglio nostrano (Tilia platyphyllos Scop.), noto anche col nome di Tiglio nostrale è un albero della famiglia delle Tiliaceae, diffuso nell'Europa continentale e nel Caucaso.Tilia (Tiglio) è un genere di piante della famiglia delle Tiliaceae. Il nome deriva dal greco ptilon (= ala), per la caratteristica brattea fogliacea che facilita la diffusione eolica dei grappoli di frutti.
Sono alberi di notevoli dimensioni, molto longevi, dall'apparato radicale espanso, profondo. Possiedono tronco robusto, alla cui base si sviluppano frequentemente numerosi polloni, e chioma larga, ramosa e tondeggiante. La corteccia dapprima liscia presenta nel tempo screpolature longitudinali.
Ha foglie alterne, asimmetriche, picciolate con base cordata e acute all'apice, dal margine variamente seghettato.
I fiori, ermafroditi, odorosi, hanno un calice di 5 sepali e una corolla con 5 petali di colore giallognolo, stami numerosi e saldati alla base a formare numerosi ciuffetti; il pistillo è unico con ovario supero pentaoculare; sono riuniti a gruppi di 3 in mazzetti dai lunghi peduncoli che originano da una brattea fogliacea ovoidale
