Izmir Turkey 27th September 1990

            Two TCDD "foreigners" on shed at Izmir shed. USATC S200 "Middle East" Class 2-8-2 46226, on the left, faces off an unidentified ex-WD/LMS Stanier 8F 2-8-0 to the right. The 8F looks a bit worse for the weather but 46226 appears to be serviceable although not in steam.

From 1942 on 29 S200 locos, built by ALCO, Baldwin & Lima, were delivered to Turkey to be joined later by 24 more purchased from Iraq (?) in 1946. 46226 was built by Lima - the distinctive diamond-shaped builder's plate (no.7947) is visible on the smokebox side.

The 8F was built by North British in Glasgow, Scotland in 1941 and is to a LMS design used as the standard UK War Department loco in WWII.
