Verdun Lorraine France 19th December 1969

            North British 2-8-0 140C246, built in Glasgow in 1917, pulls away light engine from under the morbidly-named, Avenue de Mort-Homme bridge prior to dropping on to its cement train in the station to the left & departing tender first under the bridge again to the north. The name probably refers to the vicious battles around here in WWI but on this freezing cold day I was rapidly turning into a dead man myself!
